The Alpha Story

Working at Alpha Foundry is like most foundries – hot, dirty, and surrounded by heavy machinery and molten metals. Yet there’s something special about this place that gives you a sense of accomplishment after a day’s work. Working in one of the oldest professions known to man and knowing the world depends on what we do might just be what makes our world something special.

Alpha Foundry’s History

The history of Alpha Foundry is central to one family.  From the beginning, a Barron family member has labored in this foundry.  Through time, the company has evolved and grown, but never too much that we have lost focus on our main objective — to provide the highest quality products and best customer service. That’s been our formula for over 100 years and will continue to be for the next century.

1920

Founded on July 15, 1920 by Langdon S. Barron, Sr. and Ben A. Richter, as the Barron & Richter Pattern Company.

1923

Langdon Barron acquired sole ownership of the company in 1923.

1937

In 1937 services were expanded to include machine finishing bronze and aluminum castings.

1941

In January of 1941, Mr. Barron entered into partnership with Charles Elmendorf under the name of Alpha Brass Foundry Company.

1944

In 1944, Mr. Barron again became sole owner.

1958

After Mr. Baron’s death in April, 1958, ownership was transferred to his widow, Clara A. Barron and management assumed by his son, Robert H. Barron. whose career was interrupted several times for active military service as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corp.

In November 1958 A new plant was constructed in Hazelwood, Missouri.

1960

On August 1, l960, the business incorporated, with Robert H. Barron as President and General Manager. During this time, he developed the patented Alpha Process for making shell face molds which made it possible for the business to provide high quality castings at competitive prices.

1972

In 1972, Mr. Barron’s son, Emerson S. Barron, joined the company.

1982

In 1982 Robert H. Barron retired. His successor, Emerson Barron, changed the company’s direction from a predominantly green sand, brass and bronze facility to an aluminum, Alpha Process foundry. He also positioned the company for the future by adopting computer technology to casting design and production.

 

1993

In November 1993, the company ceased producing brass alloy castings and changed its name to Alpha Foundry Company.

1996

In 1996, services were expanded to include a machine shop by purchasing state-of-the-art vertical CNC milling machines.

 

1999

In May of 1999, fourth-generation Ryan Barron joined Alpha Foundry after graduating from Washington University with a BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

2002

In January 2002, capabilities were further expanded to include CNC lathe machining along with a full range of machining services.

2006

In 2006 Ryan earned his MBA and now functions as President and General Manager overseeing all company operations. Emerson Barron is still active in the company and working on new innovations to help foundries work more efficiently.

2018

In 2018 Alpha Foundry installs an innovative small-scale production iron casting cell, as well as a 3D sand printer, becoming one of the earliest foundries to embrace continuing production 3D core making.

2023

In 2023 Alpha Foundry alters the landscape of the 3D Sand Foundry industry with their own groundbreaking ShotShower 3D sand cleaning system, launched into the market with the spinoff business HOT Ideas, LLC.
